Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia

چکیده

Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is one of the most important infectious diseases of cattle in Africa. Naïve herds can experience losses up to 80%, and many cattle that survive remain chronic carriers. These carriers may suffer from recurrent low-grade fever, loss of condition, and respiratory signs upon exercise, and might introduce the virus into uninfected herds. Although contagious bovine pleuropneumonia was once found worldwide, it was eradicated from most continents, including North America, by the mid-20 th century. Its incidence also began to decline in Africa by the 1970s. During the late 1980s and 1990s, however, this disease increased in prevalence in endemic areas. It also re-emerged in some African and European countries that had been CBPP-free, in some cases for 25 years or more. Eradication was successful in Europe, with the most recent case reported in 1999. However, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia remains a serious concern in Africa, where the end of widespread combined rinderpest/CBPP vaccination programs (after rinderpest eradication) may have contributed to its resurgence.

Manifestation and epidemiology of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia in Europe.

The authors describe the clinical profile and epidemiology of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia in Europe. This disease, once considered to have been eradicated several years ago, has now become endemic in southern countries of Europe. The status of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia in Portugal and Italy, and the evolution of the disease during the last ten years, are analysed in detail, in add...

Whole-Genome Sequencing of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides Italian Strain 57/13, the Causative Agent of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia

Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides is generally considered one of most pathogenic Mycoplasma species, and it is the etiological agent of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP). Here, we present the annotated genome sequence of M. mycoides subsp. mycoides Italian strain 57/13, isolated in 1992 during CBPP outbreaks in Italy.

Experimental Studies on the Efficacy of T1sr and T1/44 Vaccine Strains of Mycoplasma mycoides Subspecies mycoides (Small Colony) against a Field Isolate Causing Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia in Kenya - Effect of a Revaccination

Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is an important disease of cattle in Africa caused by Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides biotype small colony (MmmSC) and characterized by extensive lesions of pleurisy and pneumonia (13). Among infectious diseases that threaten African cattle, its importance is only second to rinderpest (RP) and, as more and more countries declare being free of RP, CBP...
